Why Use Ladies Golf Balls?
The truth is that it's only in very recent times that both golf manufacturers and actual women golfers are beginning to take note of the inherent physiological differences in male and female golfers and how these differences translate into the need for not only different clubs, which has been well known for some time, but also and in some ways more surprisingly in a real need for different golf balls.
Once upon a time, a golf ball was just a golf ball but in recent years a lot of research and analysis has gone into how different swings, particularly how different speeds of swings, connect with different golf balls.
What this analysis has shown is that golf balls with a softer construction are much more responsive to a slower swing both in terms of distance and feel.
As a general rule the swing of a lady golfer is significantly slower than a male golfer and hence certain well established manufacturers like Nike, Maxfli, TopFlite, Spalding, Callaway and Srixon have innovated in this area and are now producing golf balls specifically manufactured and tailored to the specific requirements of the woman golfer.
There's currently 18 different golf balls available on the market that are worth your consideration and on this site I've walked through each of them in turn and outlined how they've been built and what their intended purpose is.
It's very difficult for me, without spending some time with you on the drving range, to give a recommendation that will be 100% correct for you and if you've been playing golf for any time you'll no doubt know that you've "clicked" with some golf balls and haven't done so with others despite the fact that they may well be highly respected by other golfers.
The best advice I can give you is read through the reviews and make a choice based on what you want to try first - maybe 2 or 3 different golf balls. Remember that the purpose of a golf ball specifically built for ladies is that it will increase both distance and feel from the exact swing that you have at the moment - ie when using these balls you should notice an improvement with your current setup without making adustments to any part of your swing.
Take your new balls to your local driving range or club and spend a couple of hours with them using different clubs. Aim to work through your entire range from your short irons right up to your driver.
You'll soon know whether or not they better match your swing than the none specifically designed balls you have been using to date.
If you don't find an increase in feel and distance try some of the other ladies specific balls available as time permits...eventually everyone finds their favorites that they wouldn't step on to the course without.
I know I have mine :)
